Professor Wu concurrently serves as an evaluation expert for the National Science and Technology Progress Awards; Committee Member of the Basic Software Branch of the China Society of Automotive Engineers; Committee Member of the Fluid Transmission and Control Branch of the Chinese Mechanical Engineering Society and Member of the Hydrodynamic Transmission Technology Committee; Expert for the Review of Senior Professional and Technical Positions in Automotive Specialty, Shanghai; Committee Member of the China Automotive Transmission Standardization Committee; Member of the SAE Materials, Modeling, and Testing Committee; Organizer of the Load Simulation and Vehicle Performance: Nonlinear Components/Systems session; Member of The Vehicle Design Committee (VDC) and Advanced Vehicle Technology (AVT) of ASME; Organizer of AVT3-Advances in Methods for Ground Vehicle Systems Design; Member of the IEEE VTS Committee on Autonomous Vehicles and Senior Member of IEEE. He is also Responsible Editor of the international journal International Journal of Intelligent Transportation Systems Research, Editorial Board Member of International Journal of Vehicle Performance, and Editorial Board Member of Journal of Harbin Institute of Technology and several other domestic journals.

[Research field]

His research interests include theories and methods for advanced automotive design and collaborative simulation, automotive nonlinear dynamics and control, intelligent driving technology, connected and automated vehicle & ground (CAVG), especially intelligent autonomous planning, decision-making and dynamics control, and various automatic transmissions (AT/AMT/DCT/CVT), including related technologies for new energy vehicles (EV/HEV/FCV).

[Achievements]

He has published more than 410 papers in important domestic and international academic journals and international conferences, including IEEE Transactions on Intelligent Transportation Systems, IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology, and Nonlinear Dynamics, more than 300 of which are indexed by SCI/EI. He has authored monographs such as Vehicle Hydrostatic Drive and Its Intelligent Control and Automotive Digitalized Development Technology (supported by the High-Level Works Fund of China Machine Press), published the translated work Fahrzeugdynamik, and served as chief editor of Automotive Theory (now in its third edition), a national planning textbook for general higher education during the 11th Five-Year and 14th Five-Year Plan periods. These books are held by libraries of many famous universities in the United States, Germany, Japan, and other countries. He also contributed to the Automotive Engineering Handbook, Principles and Design of Modern Passenger Car Automatic Transmissions, and other works. He has led more than 60 projects, including the National High-Tech R&D Program (863 Program), National Natural Science Foundation of China projects, and international cooperation projects with UTC of the USA and CONTINENTAL of Germany. He has obtained nearly 100 national invention patents and 32 national computer software copyrights, and has been responsible for formulating or revising 3 automotive industry standards. He has won the SAE Forest R. McFarland Award and the Fok Ying Tung Education Foundation Young Faculty Fund Award. As first completer, he has received 3 second prizes and 2 third prizes for provincial/ministerial Technological Invention Awards; 3 second prizes and 4 third prizes for provincial/ministerial Science and Technology Progress Awards; 2 second prizes for provincial/ministerial Teaching Achievement Awards; 1 first prize for the Shanghai Regular Higher Education Excellent Textbook Award; 1 first prize and 2 second prizes for Excellent Works from the Shanghai Automotive Industry Education Foundation; and the Grand Prize of the Tongji University Excellent Textbook Award in 2025.
